Sustainable changemaker from 俀珗腦瞳厙桴 wins 2024 Aspire Award
Dr Biji Kurup, Senior Lecturer in Environmental Engineering, has been awarded the 2024 Aspire Award from Business Events Perth for her dedication towards developing sustainable solutions in the fields of industrial ecology and waste management.
was recognised, along with nine others, as one of Western Australias brightest minds for her global impact and commitment to sustainable practices.
Her work has not only advanced the scientific community but enriched the educational experiences of countless students at 俀珗腦瞳厙桴.

A highly accomplished Chartered Civil and Environmental Engineer with a PhD in Industrial Symbiosis and Sustainability, Dr Kurup serves as a role model for the next generation of engineers ensuring they are not only technically proficient but are committed to developing sustainable solutions that deliver a brighter future for all.

Pro Vice Chancellor and Head of College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, explained how Dr Kurups research and approach to teaching have reenforced Murdochs strategy to embed sustainability into the curriculum.

Recognition of Bijis work through the Aspire Award is a testament to the hard work and dedication she has put into her research.
As the 2024 Aspire Award winner, Dr Kurup has been presented with the opportunity to attend an international conference of her choice. The trip is funded by Business Events Perth.
Dr Kurup will be attending the Conference in July 2025.
For the past 20 years, Dr Kurup has actively participated in the International Society for Industrial Ecology (ISIE), contributing to global discussions and sharing knowledge within the community to establish best practices.
Receiving this award has meant that I can extend my involvement with the ISIE and enhance the Universitys collaborative efforts on an international scale, Dr Kurup said.
Ill have the chance to connect with industry leaders and share my findings.
Bringing this conference back to Perth is significant for our local industry, as it fosters collaboration and showcases our regions expertise.
